Yesterday's meeting with the lawyer was very informative and productive. Currently, as things stand, the best advice he had was to contact the NY Attorney General about the situation at Dowling whether you are a student or employee.
For students, if you find yourself in a limbo situation where Dowling's current situation will cost you a significant amount of time or money in order to complete your education, contact the NY Attorney General with your situation and ask that Dowling be investigated. Even if you have transferred, if you feel that the transfer has cost you in terms of time and money, call the Attorney General anyway with specifics. If you feel Dowling's current situation has impacted your education significantly, contact the Attorney General.
For employees, you can contact the Attorney General to discuss matters of money owed or your insurance situation. I can also tell you that according to what I've heard, NYS Dept. of Labor is already investigating Dowling, so the Attorney General's office will probably be receptive to your plight.
According to what we were told, this is the most expedient route to putting pressure on Dowling to move its ass and start classes again or close up shop so the teach out to Molloy can take place. I know many of you have various opinions on which is a better option. Both options are shitty in their own ways, but in either case, a final decision by Dowling will give you a solid place to start from if you cannot finalize your own transfer plans as things stand now. As things are right now, the longer Dowling prolongs this zombie status, the longer it will take you to figure out how to finish your education, costing you more time and maybe even money.
Eventually, as a group, we want to draft a petition with signatures to send to the Attorney General. But for right now, this is what you can do as individuals. You can also contact Newsday and tell them how this affected you. I'm sure many of you have questions. Those who were at the meeting will do our best to answer them.
