Below is the link to the live stream from Dowling President Albert Inserra. Please watch and share.
June 9th, around 1:30 pm. We met with the President of Dowling. He answered our questions patiently. We'd like to thank him for his time.
And now we'd like to dissect his answers.
- Inserra assures us the college will know whether it will remain open or closed next week.
- Inserra did not know about the Molloy teach out falling through. He is now informed. He assured us he would contact Molloy.
- Incompletes; Inserra suggested that students can contact him to get their work in to complete their classes.
- From other people on site and Inserra, it appears that students can take classes elsewhere as "visiting students" and transfer those credits to Dowling, if it remains open. Dowling would have to first approve those classes and do degree audit.
- Transcripts will be at Dowling until it closes, at which point they will be transferred to Molloy.
- Inserra claims that the faculty had warning of their termination, even among reports from professors and staff alike that they were not given any more time than the students. No comment on 2 weeks severance pay. No comment on whether those professors would be rehired, as adjuncts or full time, or at all, should the college reopen. One faculty claims "The staff got 2 days notice. A cheesy email."
- Inserra claims classes will continue in the Fall, but as of right now there are no professors hired.
Side Note-- Sherlock Vargas: We just watched the entire video, and would like to clarify one issue. On Monday, May 23, in an attempt to save the school, the full time faculty voted to receive no pay until July 19, however they would still be covered by health insurance. On May 31, we received the email that our jobs and insurance would end on June 1. In addition, since the school's health insurance was self-funded, employees were not able to continue their school health insurance through COBRA. Insurance obtained through Obamacare will not take effect until July 1, so many faculty are without health insurance.
