Dear Dowling College Student:
It is with great sadness and regret that we must inform you that effective June 3, 2016 Dowling College will cease operations and close. Though Summer I and Summer II sessions are cancelled, we are attempting to provide mechanisms for students needing summer courses to fulfill their graduation requirements. Information regarding these mechanisms will be made available on the Dowling website as soon as it becomes available.
Molloy College is working with Dowling College to carry out a “teach-out” initiative for Dowling students. A transition counseling center will be established and managed by Molloy College and will be available to Dowling students starting Wednesday, June 2, 2016 to help Dowling students make decisions on how to complete their degree. Students can contact the Transition Center at 516.323.4040 or by email to Dowling@molloy.edu. Drop-in counseling will be available on June 2, 2016 at Molloy College’s Suffolk Center and June 3rd at Molloy College’s Rockville Center campus from 9:00am to 8:00pm. At these sessions Dowling students will be able to receive individual counseling to review various options for completing degrees, financial aid questions and athletic eligibility. A “College Fair” will be held the week of June 6th. We will post specific details and reminders on the Molloy College website atwww.molloy.edu/dowling
You may obtain your transcript by contacting New York State Education Department. You may have the right to have student loans discharged as a result of this closure. We want you to know that we made every effort to form a suitable academic affiliation so that we could keep the college open. Unfortunately, we were unable to form such an affiliation, and our only option is to cease operations.
Despite this disruption to your academic plan, we encourage you to continue your education. There is rarely a straight path to success, and though the fate that has befallen your college is an unexpected detour, do not lose sight of your educational goals. We are enormously proud of you, and we hope we have helped you on your road to a better and brighter future. We are disappointed that we could not accompany you for the entire journey, but for you the path to success goes onward. We wish you the very best of luck.
Sincerely, Dowling College Board of Trustees
